What are the requirements for becoming a Canadian citizen?

To apply for Canadian citizenship as an adult, you must:
1. Be a permanent resident;
2. be 18 years of age or older;
3. have lived in Canada for at least 1,095 days in the four years before the date you sign your application (time spent residing in Canada prior to acquiring permanent residence counts as a half day of residence — see residence calculator);
4. have an adequate knowledge of either English or French (see What is meant by “adequate knowledge of English or French”?);
5 .have an adequate knowledge of Canada and the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship;
6. not be under a removal order (in other words, the Government of Canada has not ordered you to leave the country);
7. not be a security risk;
8. not be criminally prohibited; and
9. attend a ceremony and take the oath of citizenship

Did you know that level about knowledge of English or French you must have to becoming citizen?

in order to become a Canadian citizen, you must show that you have adequate knowledge of one of Canada's official languages: English and French. We define “adequate knowledge” as having the equivalent of level 4 for speaking and listening in the Canadian Language Benchmarks or Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadien. This level means you can understand other people when they speak to you and they can understand you.The Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) / Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadien (NCLC) is the official standard used in Canada to describe, measure and recognize second-language proficiency. In other words, it is used to measure how well someone knows a language.

If you are an adult (between ages 18-54) applying for citizenship, you will need to provide documents proving your ability to speak and listen in English or French. These documents show you have reached CLB/NCLC level 4 or higher.
